School Faculty and Equipment

HPDSEM headquarters is located at 7411 Riggs Road, Suite 412 in Hyattsville, MD, 20783. The building is a four story building with a with ample parking in the front and rear of the building. The school is located on the fourth floor and has three classrooms, an administrative office, a library/conference room, and adequate restroom facilities. The school is equipped with state-of-the-art teaching equipment along with a camera surveillance system. The school is equipped with lighted emergency exit signs, and comfortable heating/cooling. Each classroom is ADA compliant and contains the following: adequate lighting, emergency lighting, executive chairs, tables, video equipment, and teaching stations with computers.

Emergency Exits

When exiting the main entrance to the school, the emergency exit is located approximately 20 feet to the left using the emergency exit stairwell. The stairwell leads out to the rear parking lot.

School Calendar, Holidays and Inclement Weather

HPDSEM adheres to a calendar of holidays as follows: New Years Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and all other holidays recognized by the District of Columbia (DC) for our DC classes.

HPDSEM adheres to a calendar of holidays as follows: New Years Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and all other holidays recognized by the state of Maryland for our Maryland classes.

HPDSEM adheres to a calendar of holidays as follows: New Years Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and all other holidays recognized by the state of Virginia for our Virginia classes.

HPDSEM's primary location in Hyattsville, Maryland will follow the Prince George’s County Public School System closing schedule for inclement weather for classes offered at our Maryland location. HPDSEM will follow the DC Board of Education, Maryland Board of Education, and Virginia Board of Education closing schedules for inclement weather for classes offered in those respective locations.  Students will be notified via email, as soon as possible, when school closes for any reason. A make-up schedule will be included in that email.

Entrance Requirements

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. A valid drivers license or passport must be presented with proof of a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants must be able to read, write, and understand the English language. 

Enrollment Procedures

Students interested in receiving an application can call our office, email us, or visit our website. In order to successfully complete enrollment, students must thoroughly complete the application, and remit payment for all classes. 

Student Conduct

Students are required to act in a manner to reflect credit to themselves, the real estate profession and the HPDSEM. Students are expected to have the highest level of ethical standards and conduct themselves accordingly. Children, guests and pets are not permitted during program hours. HPDSEM reserves the right to dismiss any student who fails to adhere to school procedures and government regulatory policies. HPDSEM reserves the right to immediately terminate enrollment of any student involved in illegal or unethical practices, disruptive or offensive speech/behavior, or threatens or harasses other school officials and students. Students who do not meet the standards of the school’s academic and attendance requirements are subject to termination and will fail to graduate. HPDSEM reserves the right to refuse to issue a refund to students terminated for the reasons previously stated. 

Anti-Discrimination

HPDSEM does not discriminate against applicants, students or employees based on that person's race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, genetic information or any other protected characteristics.

Grievance Procedure

Students who have a grievance with HPDSEM are encouraged to resolve the matter directly with their instructor(s). If the student is not satisfied after the initial resolution attempt with the instructor, the student may request a consult with the school administrator within 3 business days of the initial resolution attempt. After the meeting  with the school administrator, if the matter is not resolved, the student may submit a written complaint to the Secretary of Higher Education at the Maryland Higher Education Commission at 6 North Liberty Street, Baltimore, MD 21201. Tuition and Fees

Materials for each course will all be administered in electronic format via online learning platform. Access to the online learning platform will be granted in advance of the course such that students have adequate time to prepare and print hard copy of any materials they deem personally necessary. Certain pricing bundles may be offered from time to time which allow students to register/enroll in several courses at a reduced rate. Any student who is enrolled currently in a course and wishes to take advantage of current special bundle pricing will be allowed to do so provided they are taking their first course in that bundle with HPDSEM and wish to enroll in all related remaining courses. Any student who chooses to purchase courses using a bundle price is required to complete all bundled courses within 180 days of the date of purchase. Once any student has completed their first course in a bundle with HPDSEM, they are no longer eligible for any bundled discounts.

Refund Policy

There is a seven day (7) Cancellation Period. All fees paid by a student shall be refunded if the student chooses not to enroll in, or to withdraw from a school within seven (7) calendar days after having paid in full for any class. If the school closes or discontinues the program prior to the first day of class, the student shall be issued a full refund within fifteen (15) days. If the student has paid tuition in full and chooses not to enroll after the seven (7) calendar day cancellation period, but before the first day of instruction, the school may retain the administrative fee of thirty-five dollars ($35). Textbooks and materials issued to the student must be returned in good condition, determined by the school, or the cost of books & materials will be deducted from the potential refund. If the student's withdrawal or termination is the last date of attendance or no later than the second class session, a partial refund will be issued. After this time, no refund; but, the student may transfer to the same course at the next scheduled session(s) in addition to paying a new administrative fee ($35). If after an official leave of absence , a student does not return to the program, a refund shall be based on date of withdraw and paid within sixty (15) days from last schedule day of the leave of absence.

Attendance

The Real Estate Commission/Board requires successful completion of sixty (60) instructional hours for the Pre-licensing Salesperson Course to be eligible for taking the real estate exam. Therefore, students must attempt to attend every session. Total hours missed cannot exceed 6 hours and must be made up in the next available program schedule or within sixty (60) days of contracted last date. Arriving more than 10 minutes late or leaving more than 10 minutes early will count as a full hour absent. A student must achieve at least an 90% attendance rate in order to be graduated. A student’s attendance will be evaluated at the end of each class. If a student’s attendance rate is below 90% at the end of any course, the student will be placed on attendance probation for the following course. If, at the end of the next course (probationary period) the student’s cumulative attendance rate is at least 90%, the student will be removed from probation. If the cumulative attendance rate is below 90%, the student will remain on probation until the student’s cumulative attendance rate is at least 90%. Any student who misses more than 12 hours will be terminated from the program.

The DC Real Estate Commission requires successful completion of one-hundred thirty five (135) instructional hours for the Pre-licensing Brokers Course for the District of Columbia to be eligible for taking the real estate exam. Therefore, students must attempt to attend every session. Total hours missed cannot exceed 13.5 hours and must be made up in the next available program schedule or within sixty (60) days of contracted last date. Arriving more than 10 minutes late or leaving more than 10 minutes early will count as a full hour absent. A student must achieve at least an 90% attendance rate in order to be graduated. A student’s attendance will be evaluated at the end of each class. If a student’s attendance rate is below 90% at the end of any course, the student will be placed on attendance probation for the following course. If, at the end of the next course (probationary period) the student’s cumulative attendance rate is at least 90%, the student will be removed from probation. If the cumulative attendance rate is below 90%, the student will remain on probation until the student’s cumulative attendance rate is at least 90%. Any student who misses more than 12 hours will be terminated from the program.

The Virginia Real Estate Board requires successful completion of one-hundred eighty (180) instructional hours for the Pre-licensing Brokers Course for Virginia to be eligible for taking the real estate exam. Therefore, students must attempt to attend every session. Total hours missed cannot exceed 18 hours and must be made up in the next available program schedule or within sixty (60) days of contracted last date. Arriving more than 10 minutes late or leaving more than 10 minutes early will count as a full hour absent. A student must achieve at least an 90% attendance rate in order to be graduated. A student’s attendance will be evaluated at the end of each class. If a student’s attendance rate is below 90% at the end of any course, the student will be placed on attendance probation for the following course. If, at the end of the next course (probationary period) the student’s cumulative attendance rate is at least 90%, the student will be removed from probation. If the cumulative attendance rate is below 90%, the student will remain on probation until the student’s cumulative attendance rate is at least 90%. Any student who misses more than 12 hours will be terminated from the program.

Grading Policy

A student's grade for any course offering is a combination of homework, quizzes, pop quizzes, and class participation. A permanent record of attendance and academic achievement for each student will be maintained and can be accessed by contacting our front office.

Below is the grading scale for each course offering. 

 

A = 92-100,  B = 84-91 , C = 75-83 , F = 74 or below

Cumulative Grade Scale:

Final Exam - 50% of total grade

Midterm - 30% of total grade

Quizzes - 20% of total grade

Virtual Learning

Students are responsible for the performance of their own technology, including audio volume, video clarity and reliable internet connection. Students will need to download the client software to their computer.  The web browser client will download automatically when they join for the first video-conference. By attending a virtual class, you consent to being included in any video/audio recordings and reproductions. HPDSEM does not provide technical assistance for your devices. Please contact your device technician or internet provider for assistance with your device and service. Please plan to access the class at least 30 minutes early to solve any technical issues you may have with your equipment. To receive credit for the course, the student must be visible on the instructor’s monitor at all times during class; participate, no distracted driving; in a location conducive for learning, and promptly return from all breaks. If you are disconnected due to connection issues, please reconnect promptly, as your time offline will be monitored. You will not receive credit for the course. If you are not accounted for for 90% of the class time. If this is the case, you will have to re-register for another session of the same course at no additional cost. Only one re-scheduling is allowed. After this one re-schedule, a new full fee must be paid by the student in order to attend the next session of the same course. HPDSEM reserves the right to deny credit to any student who does not fully comply with HPDSEM’s guidelines.

End-of-Course Exam

The end-of-course examinations for our courses will be administered using Microsoft Teams in the presence of the course monitor. Each student will gain access to the end-of-course examination only while in the virtual presence of the course proctor. The multiple-choice examination will be continuously monitored and require the student to be on camera and in a private and well-lit location for the entire duration of the examination. All end-of-course examinations for our courses are virtual, therefore there are no-in person end-of-course examinations.

 

An end-of-course exam will not be administered to any student who does not satisfy the course attendance requirement.

 

Students are not permitted to bring laptops, tablets, cell phones, or similar electronic devices (other than a basic calculator) into the testing site on the day of an exam. A testing site is defined by the private and well-lit location in which the student chooses to complete their examination, as each examination is completed virtually using Microsoft Teams videoconferencing software. This restriction will not apply to the technology device the student is utilizing for the actual examination. Any student who brings such a device into the testing site on the day of an exam will be required to remove it before the exam begins. Any device being utilized for testing must be registered by IP address for purposes of taking the examination and monitoring for any unauthorized activity.

Transcripts

Any student who wishes to receive a transcript from the school must send a written request via email or mail to HPDSEM. 

Job Placement

HPDSEM does not guarantee placement or employment upon graduation. The instructors of HPDSEM will offer general guidance regarding how the student may make decisions in choosing a broker.

Re-Admittance Policy

Students who have voluntarily withdrawn from the school’s program prior to its completion or who were terminated from the school program due to unsatisfactory attendance or academic progress may re-apply to be accepted into the program at any time. Credit will be granted for passed modules and attendance provided re-enrollment occurs within six (6) months of their last date of attendance. If re-enrollment occurs after six (6) months have passed, then the student may complete the enrollment process for the next available course date.

Graduation Requirements

60 hours of classroom lecture and all program work must be completed to be eligible for graduation. A midterm and final exam must be passed with a grade of no less than 85%. The school does not grant any credit for previous training or experience.
